App: Bible Study
Developer: Olive Tree
I remember getting my first mobile phones and the first thing I wanted to do with them, was get a copy of the Bible on them. Back in the day, this often meant getting a Java file you transferred onto your mobile and gave you access to a KJV version of the Bible!
One of the first Bible apps I remember is Olive Tree. They were forerunners when it came to Bibles on your phones.
The Bible Study app they offer is great and has a lot of content available for you to study God’s Word.
You can download most versions of the Bible for free, some you do have to pay for. There are commentaries you can access for free, and again, some you have to pay for.
They have an extensive library on their online store you can buy and access on the go.
One of the things I like, you can pay a monthly subscription to them for packs on certain translations. So as an example, I used to pay £5.99 a month for the ESV pack that gave me access to ESV commentaries, study Bibles and study aids.
If you’re an iPhone user or iPad user, you can have the verse of the day as a widget on your Home Screen now which is a nice touch.
I like that you can have two books open on the screen, the top half can be your Bible, the lower half can be a commentary or study Bible.
You can make notes, highlight verses and this all saves to your account so it’s on other devices as well.
This app is my go to for studying the Bible. It works nicely on my iPad and iMac and it’s easy to flick through what I need.
My only criticism of the app, it’s a bit overly complicated. There’s a lot happening on the screen, lots of buttons to press, and despite using it for a while now, I feel like there’s still loads I haven’t even touched yet when it comes to the features this app has.
Overall if you like to study the Bible, this app has all the tools you’ll need to do this well, you just need to spend some time getting to know how the app works to fully understand it all.
